45th Street East Roadway Improvements from SR 70 to 44th Avenue East
Construction Cost: $9.8 Million
Construction Start Date: February 2018
Anticipated Completion Date: Fall 2019
Contractor: Gator Grading & Paving, LLC
Typical Section of 45th Street East Widening
This project involves the widening of 45th Street East between S.R. 70 and 44th Avenue East. The existing 1.1 miles of roadway will be widened from a two-lane to a four-lane urban section with grassed raised medians. The bridge deck at Gap Creek will be widened to accommodate additional travel lanes. Two pedestrian bridges will be constructed to provide pedestrian sidewalks. Access to the existing fire station will be improved with an emergency traffic signal. Signalization will be added at the intersection of 44th Avenue East and 45th Street East.
For the safety of work crews and the traveling public, commuters are urged to adhere to the posted speed limit of 25 m.p.h. and to watch for traffic lane shifts, barrels, and flagmen when traveling on 45th Street East between 44th Avenue East and S.R. 70.
Flashers have been installed at the temporary four-way stop at the intersection of 44th Avenue East and 45th Street East, which will remain until activation of newly installed signalization at the intersection.
Commuters should also adhere to the posted “Do Not Block Driveway” sign in front of Fire Station No. 4. In addition, performing U-Turns in the fire station driveway is prohibited.
Due to the nature of the construction activities involved with the 45th Street Roadway Improvements project, access to sidewalks on the eastern and western sides of the roadway will be temporarily blocked. The sidewalks will be restored as soon as possible. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause as we work to complete these improvements.
Lighting and Signalization
The lighting contractor will be installing shields to all lighting fixtures along 45th Street E. between S.R. 70 and 44th Avenue E. to achieve a uniform lighting pattern directed onto sidewalks and right-of-way areas.
Planned activation of the new traffic signals at 44th Avenue E. and 45th Street E. has been delayed due to plan revisions necessary to prepare the intersection for the next phase of the 44th Avenue East Extension project.
Grading and sodding are ongoing.
Crews have completed installation of road base and curb from Pro Am Avenue E. to S.R. 70. Final asphalt paving and the opening of all lanes of 45th Street E. to traffic are expected by Friday, September 13, 2019.
To ensure the safety of work crews and the traveling public, commuters are asked to observe the new traffic pattern, remaining alert and exercising caution when traveling through the project area.
Pond excavation is now complete, and hauling is expected to continue through the week of September 9, 2019.
Closures/Detours/Maintenance of Traffic
Travelers may experience brief interruptions and delays in traffic, as well as periodic flagging operations to accommodate construction activities.
(Note: In the event of unexpected weather or unforeseen circumstances, planned work may be rescheduled without additional notification.)
