45th Street East Roadway Improvements from SR 70 to 44th Avenue East

Construction Cost: $9.8 Million
Anticipated Start Date: February 2018
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer 2019
Contractor: Gator Grading & Paving, LLC

Typical Section of 45th Street East Widening

Improvements:

This project involves the widening of 45th Street East between S.R. 70 and 44th Avenue East. The existing 1.1 miles of roadway will be widened from a two-lane to a four-lane urban section with grassed raised medians. The bridge deck at Gap Creek will be widened to accommodate additional travel lanes. Two pedestrian bridges will be constructed to provide pedestrian sidewalks. Access to the existing fire station will be improved with an emergency traffic signal. Signalization will be added at the intersection of 44th Avenue East and 45th Street East.

Current Activities:

For the safety of work crews and the traveling public, commuters are urged to adhere to the posted speed limit of 25 m.p.h. and to watch for traffic lane shifts, barrels, and flagmen when traveling on 45th Street East between 44th Avenue East and S.R. 70.

Flashers have been installed at the temporary four-way stop at the intersection of 44th Avenue East and 45th Street East, which will remain until newly installed signalization at the intersection is activated upon completion of the project.

Commuters should also adhere to the posted “Do Not Block Driveway” sign in front of Fire Station No. 4. In addition, performing U-Turns in the fire station driveway is prohibited.

Due to the nature of the construction activities involved with the 45th Street Roadway Improvements project, access to sidewalks on the eastern and western sides of the roadway will be temporarily blocked. The sidewalks will be restored as soon as possible. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause as we work to complete these improvements.

Lighting and Signalization

Lighting fixtures along 45th Street E. are operational, with adjustments continuing as the contractor works to achieve lighting patterns that minimize the spread of light outside the public right-of-way.

The new traffic signals at the four-way stop at 44th Avenue E. and 45th Street E. will soon be activated, and the flashing stop signs will be removed.

Road Work

A second left-turn lane from southbound 45th Street E. onto eastbound S.R. 70 is now in operation.

Driveway installation, curb work, and the installation of a new fire hydrant at Fire Station No. 4 on 45th Street E. are underway.

Crews continue with tying in of new water lines, pond excavation, sodding and curb work, sidewalk installation, and construction of the road at the south end of the project between Pro Am Avenue and S.R. 70. Bike lanes will be installed as part of final striping.

To ensure the safety of work crews and the traveling public, commuters are asked to observe the new traffic pattern, remaining alert and exercising caution when traveling through the project area.

Closures/Detours/Maintenance of Traffic

Travelers may experience brief interruptions and delays in traffic, as well as periodic flagging operations to accommodate construction activities.

(Note: In the event of unexpected weather or unforeseen circumstances, planned work may be rescheduled without additional notification.)
